Life is unfair: Effective tactics to deal with unfairness
Life is unfair. You will always encounter situations where
you will feel that the rub of the green has gone against you and you have been
dealt a bad hand and life is unfair. How does one deal with unfair situations
where you are not to blame for the hole you are in. How does one flip the
situation where you can deal with an unfair situation with a sense of control
and confidence. We have four effective tactics to deal with unfair situations.
Acknowledge the situation for what it is
- See the situation without attaching any adjectives to it
- Life is neither fair nor unfair
- It is the way it is
- This acknowledgement helps you understanding the facts of your life
- Once you understand the facts of your situation, you can start figuring out solutions
- When you are caught in emotion, you cannot get into a problem diagnosis mode
- If you are not in a problem diagnosis mode, you cannot solve problems
What if you have lost your job, analyzing the facts around
how and why you lost your job will not get you your next job. You need to get
moving fast. You need to look at your savings. You need to understand how long
you can survive without your current job. You need to put out your resume in
the job market. You need to reach out to your network. You need to move into
job finding mode. There is so much to do. Moping about how unfair your previous
employer was is not a great strategy.
Don’t become a victim
- We all are victims of our circumstances but don’t become victims
- It is difficult not to feel like a victim
- Stop yourself from feeling like a victim
- If you cannot stop yourself from feeling like a victim... at least be aware of when you are acting like a victim
- The awareness of being a victim will help you in not being like a victim
You have lost your job and you are going through a difficult
period and you have not found a new job. It is easy to feel like a victim. It
is difficult to stop behaving like a victim. At least be aware of when you are
behaving like a victim.
Own the problem
- You have been dealt an unfair hand
- It is an unfair hand, but it is now your hand
- You have to take charge and own your hand
- You have to play to win with the hand you have
You are busy blaming your previous employer for your job
loss. Getting caught in the blame game distracts you from the things you need
to do, and it holds you back from the direction you need to move in.
The right time to blame is when you have overcome the situation
Blaming someone is a luxury you can allow yourself when you
have handled the situation successfully and you can bitch or complain and seek
sympathy or empathy at your own leisure. When you are dealing with the
situation you don't have the luxury of dealing with labels like unfair.
