Why don’t I achieve my goals?

If you are ambitious enough to set a goal for yourself then 9 times out of 10 you are not going to achieve it. While we should celebrate the ambitious you, who has the courage to set up a goal, we need to understand why you are unable to achieve it. Here is a simple checklist you can run through to figure out why you are unable to achieve your goals.

The questions to ask yourself to understand why you are unable to achieve your goals

Priority
  • Is my goal a priority?
  • How many things am I saying no to everyday to focus on my goals
    • I am not hanging out with my friends because I have stuff to do
    • I am not spending time on things which are unrelated to my goal and taking away my time, energy, money which I could invest on achieving my goal

Repetition
  • Sport persons, artists, soldiers practice daily - Do I?
  • Am I practicing daily?

Volume
  • An average person is watching TV for 3 hour 44 minutes every day.
  • If I am an average person, I have 3 hours 44 minutes of time and energy to watch TV
  • How many hours and minutes am I spending every day to achieve my goals?

Progress
  • I play PUBG, Candy Crush etc. etc. ...
  • I definitely move up levels. I make progress
  • I am not making progress - Check for Priority, Repetition and Volume
  • I am doing good on Priority, Repetition and Volume and still not making progress
  • Find the problem which is holding back your progress
  • Figure out ways to overcome the problem holding you back
  • If you cannot figure out ways to overcome the problem then seek help - books, online resources, friends, teachers, bosses, any who you think could help you out

90% of the failures in achieving goals is due to not taking care of the Priority, Repetition and Volume. If you have the intensity and grit to take care of the Priority, Reputation and Volume then you will definitely make progress. For some the progress is small for others it is big. For some the progress is slow for others it is fast.

The key issue is that are you supporting your goal with the oxygen of Priority, Repetition and Volume for it to be able to survive today and hopefully thrive in the future.
